GirlMade Centenary Edition 

The GirlMade Project showcases the diverse creative and artistic talents of the girls and women of Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT.

Typically held biennially, in 2020 we are launching a GirlMade – Centenary Edition to celebrate the centenary of Girl Guides in NSW by looking to the future, with the theme empowering future women underscoring our commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

The GirlMade Project is open to all current Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT Girl Guides and Adult Members 5–105+.

When

Online submissions for completed artworks opened 23 May 2020 and will close 5 October at 11:59 PM.

There are six categories for entry to the GirlMade Project:

1. 
Pre-junior Guides (5–7).
2. Junior Guides (7–10).
3. Guides (10–14).
4. Senior Guides (14–17).
5. Olaves (18–30).
6. Adults 18+

Submissions

Participants are encouraged to ponder the theme; to make it personally and internally meaningful before externally creating and inspiring others through their art. Members will enter their artworks through an online submission portal. 

The artworks will then be auctioned off later in the year to help raise funds to support Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT continue Guiding for the next 100 years.

Artworks can be worked on as part of a Guides@Home term program, within Guides@HomeUnit meetings, or as an individual. Each artwork entered into the GirlMade Project must be created by an individual, it cannot be a collaborative work. 

You can enter one artwork only.

How to Enter

There are three easy steps to participating in GirlMade Project Centenary Edition:

1. Register your interested online to receive emails about the details of participation in all Centenary Programming. 

2. Create an artwork

3. Fill out an entry form online and submit a picture of your artwork via the online submission portal.

Online submissions for completed artworks will open 23 May 2020 and close 5 October at 11:59 PM
 
Members must register your interest first, before completing and submitting a picture of their artwork. Last day for registrations and submissions is 5 October 2020.

Conditions of entry 

  • All Guides aged 5–105+ are encouraged to participate. 
  • One (1) entry per person
  • There is no cost to register or submit artworkto the GirlMade Centenary Edition Project. 
  • There is a restriction on artwork size and media used, please refer to the ‘What kind of artwork can I create’ section for details.

Submission Guidelines

Online Submission Requirements 

  • Submissions of final works due 5 October 2020 
  • Submit image of artwork via online portal. Submission of artwork confirms approval for your artwork to be sold in a virtual on in person auction 
  • Only two-dimensional (2D) artworks on flat surface will be accepted with a maximum 3mm protrusion. 
  • Three-dimensional (3D) artworks such as sculptures, audio visual or interactive installations will not be accepted, due to restrictions of the exhibition space. 
  • The maximum size of an artwork is 33.7 cm x 46 cm (the measurements of an A3 piece of paper with a 2cm frame) including framing and ready to hang. 
  • A4-size artworks are preferred. 
  • There is no minimum size. Artworks must be ready to hang, framed (or can be stretched canvas).
  • Work may not weigh more than 5 kg. 
  • Submissions that do not meet the requirements.

    Q Can I enter with others? 
    A. No, entries are for individuals only.

    A. No, it is free to participate. All participants must register via Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT website to participate and all art works must be submitted via the online portal once completed. 

    Q. Can I participate in both GirlMade Centenary Additional and A Letter To My Future Self?
    A. Yes, all members as welcome to participate in both Centenary Programs. 

    Q. Do I have to participate in both GirlMade Centenary Additional and A Letter To My Future Self?
    A. No way, you can choose to one or the other. It is optional if you want to do both. 
    Q. How do I register for GirlMade or A Letter To My Future Self?
    A. 1. Register online through the Centenary website page to express your interest in participating. This will allow you to receive emails about Centenary Programming 2. Begin work on your artwork or letter. 3. Submit your finished work via the online portal between 23 May and 8 September.

    Q. What do I need to get started?
    A. Check out the supplies link above to order a kit for either program. You are of course welcome to use any supplies you may have around your home. Feel free to get creative with your mediums for your artwork! 

    Q. How do I submit my finished artwork or letter?
    A. Submit a photo or scan of your completed project. Make sure to follow the submission requirements and online submission guidelines. And don't forget to use a JPEG of at least 300 dpi and less than 5 MB.

    Q. Will there be online programming, videos, and more resources to help with my project? 
    A. Yes, we are working to plan webinars and videos to help with your GirlMade and A Letter To My Future Self program content for both individuals and units. Check back on this page frequently for the latest updates and content related to your Centenary Programming.
