Hit the slopes with your Girl Guide Sisters these July School Holidays!

This 5 day, 4 night Snow Week Camp will be seeing you staying at the popular Girl Guides property, Araluen Lodge in the centre Jindabyne and carving up the slopes and making snowmen at the beautiful Mt Kozciuszko!

Getting There

Self Drive or Carpool
Parking is very limited near Araluen Lodge. Only street parking will be available. We highly suggest to catch the organised bus to get to Araluen.

Those who arrive by driving their own car will be accounted for on the bus that takes attendees to and from the snow fields daily. You will not be required to drive your own car to the snowfields.

Dropped Off & Picked Up
If you are being dropped off to Araluen, please ensure it is after 4pm Monday 4 July.

Pick up time at Araulen will be no later then 8am Friday 8 July.

Araluen Lodge

In the heart of Jindabyne, just 200m from the shores of Lake Jindabyne, Araluen Lodge is a perfect location for winter ski trips.

Araluen sleeps 43 people in total across a range of dorms and smaller bedrooms. All beds are supplied with pillows and blankets, just bring your own linen and towels.

There is a room suitable for disabled access or separate coach driver accommodation.

There is a fully equipped kitchen with industrial dishwasher and gas oven adjacent to a large dining and recreation area.

The Lodge also has an equipment/ski room for easy storage and drying of sports gear.

There is a large fireplace stocked with fire wood. Digital TV and DVD player are available.

Travel Fund

Apply to have half your travel cost covered by Girl Guides.

Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT have a dedicated fund available to provide Members with financial assistance to attend special projects, camps, training and international conferences as well as to provide Volunteers with financial assistance to attend administrative events.

Eligibility
Members of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT and non-member volunteers in NSW, ACT & NT are eligible to access the fund.

An individual may access this or any similar fund only once in three years.

Applicants will be eligible for assistance of up to half the travel component of their expenses.

Youth applicants must be recommended by their Unit Leader.
Adult applicants must be recommended by their Region Manager.

Application
Applications for Youth and Adult members must be submitted in writing to the State Commissioner no later than 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the event.

Applications for Olave members must be submitted in writing to the State Olave Program Consultant for final approval by the State Commissioner no later than 6 weeks prior to the commencement of the event.

Selection
Selection is decided by the State Commissioner.

The outcome of the selection for Youth, Olave and Adult members will be advised in writing to the applicants by the State Commissioner or her delegate.

All items are to be labelled with your name and MUST fit into either your day pack or a soft luggage bag.

Dress

Participants are required to wear Girl Guide uniform polo top when travelling to and from the camp. Comfortable short or long sleeved shirts can be worn during the camp, however no singlets.

Participants are required to bring their own snow jacket, pants and goggles.

Closed-in shoes must be worn at all times whilst at camp – slippers for inside Araluen, snow boots or hiking boots with good grip for on the snow.  

Comfortable pants as well as wet weather and warm clothes are suggested. The weather can be unpredictable in the mountains, ensure to pack a variety of clothes for all weather conditions.

Forms

All participants must bring two copies of completed ADM.27 for Youth or ADM.28 for Adults. One copy is to be handed in when you board the bus or once you arrive at Araluen and the other copy is to kept on yourself at all times during the Camp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who can attend Snow Week?
A. Guides aged 10+, Senior Guides and Adult Members.

Q. Why is the adult ticket cheaper then the youth ticket?
A. Adult attendees are expected to provide supervision to youth attendees on and off the snow as well as assist with the running of the event in areas such as catering, health & hygiene and daily movements.

Q. Can I attend the event alone?
A. Yes, you do not need to attend with a Unit. For younger youth attendees it would be preferred if they attend the Camp with an older member or adult. 

Q. Can I purchase day tickets to attend Snow Week?
A. No, to enjoy the full experience attendees are to stay the whole Camp.

Q. Am I required to be COVID vaccinated?
A. No, further COVID details will be advised prior to the Camp.

Q. I have a Perisher Snow Pass, can I use this and have my ticket discounted the cost?
A. No, tickets are all inclusive of all the passes you require to get on the snow.

Q. Is the event catered?
A. Yes, the first meal will be dinner Monday and last meal lunch on Friday. All breakfast, morning and afternoon tea, lunch, dinner and suppers will be supplied. Please feel free to bring your own personal snacks.
