About:
This South Western Sydney adventure begins at Kui Kentlyn on Saturday morning with registration by 8.30 am sharp. (Those coming in Friday night can arrive from 5.30pm when qualified trainers will be on site to supervise youth members.)
Your Trainers will take you through the following topics:
• Map & Compass
• Navigation and route planning
• Lightweight Cooking and menu planning
• Hygiene on the trail
• Campcraft and equipment
• Choosing, fitting and packing your pack. How to adjust it for comfort on the trail
• Safety and dealing with emergencies
• The principles of Leave No Trace in the context of hiking
At 3pm we will load up our full packs and undertake a short hike in the local bush returning to Kentlyn to set up our lightweight camp for the night. After preparing our meal together and a short campfire chat (without a fire) we will head for a well earned rest. Bright and early Sunday, after a quick but nutritious breakfast, we will undertake another short almost full pack hike. Back to camp, tents down, cleaned off and packed up, lunch and our concluding sessions will see us finished by 2pm so there is plenty of time to travel home, ready for our next adventure.
Adults should bring a copy of their Expedition Module booklet so that the Trainer can sign off their attendance at the training. Youth members will have the training on their database record and will be given information on where to go from here.
Everyone will be given a QR code reference to the digital training notes and resources, a print out of a route plan blank, and lent copies of the relevant section of topographic map for Kui Kentlyn and environs. The Trainers will have full topographic maps of areas of operation, compasses and pens/pencils.
We will be using Campbeltown 9029-1N.
