Camden Oakdale Guides - ANZAC Day 2022

This year, Camden Oakdale began the ANZAC Day celebrations by hosting a BBQ breakfast for all our guiding families. This was a great opportunity to chat with parents and families, and hear their stories of ANZAC connections within their family line as well as sharing the excitement in having their daughters participate in the Annual ANZAC Day March.

Camden Oakdale District had one Pre Junior unit, two Junior units, one Guide unit and a Senior Guide unit march together and ever so proudly down the Main Street of Camden. The girls had a delightful time waving to family and friends, marching proudly in their guiding uniforms all in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for the country we live in today. The Pre Junior guides were beyond excited to be given the special role of laying the wreath at the memorial service. It was a big moment for many of the girls and even bigger for their proud parents. It was such a special moment to be a part of, and one I will cherish for a lifetime. Camden Oakdale represented their guiding community so proudly and walked with nothing but excitement being encouraged by the hundreds of onlookers.

ANZAC day is a day of remembrance as we recognise and commemorate the contribution of all those who have served Australia (including those who died) in time of war. ANZAC day has always been a day of reflection as I have been part of the march and services in Camden since I had been a Pre Junior Guide myself. From laying the wreath myself as a Pre Junior Guide to supporting my Pre Junior unit in laying the wreath was such a memorable experience. I am so grateful to be part of such an organisation who can proudly display their gratitude and respect for those past, present and future servicemen and women who are the reason our country is where we are today.
