NAIDOC Week 2024

This coming week, Sunday 7 - Sunday 14 July marks NAIDOC Week, the annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

What is NAIDOC Week?

NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is a great opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
This year's theme – 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud' – calls on us to celebrate the unyielding spirit of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, inviting us all to stand in solidarity and amplify the voices that have long been silenced. It encapsulates the celebration of Indigenous identity, inviting all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue, where we can foster a society where Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
This NAIDOC Week, we encourage members of our community to support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by participating in activities and having meaningful discussions. |

Access Educational Resources
Many useful educational resources can be accessed via the NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Australia websites. Use these resources to explore the available activities and create meaningful discussions about NAIDOC Week and its importance.
Discussions could include this year's theme – 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud!' and what this means, or could be centred around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and traditions. All discussions are valuable and will certainly acknowledge the essence of NAIDOC Week – to celebrate these communities and to educate yourself and others about the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. |
