Product Safety Recall – Action Required for Units

The ACCC has issued two product recalls affecting a range of coloured sand, magic sand and sandcastle activity sets commonly used in youth activities. Some samples have tested positive for asbestos. The risk is considered low unless the product is crushed or mechanically disturbed, but immediate precautionary action is required.

Affected products include:

  • Active Sandtub 14-piece Sand Castle Building Set (Kmart/Target)
  • Magic Sand (Blue, Green, Pink variants)
  • Educational Colours – Rainbow Sand
  • Creatistics – Coloured Sand
  • Kadink – Sand

What Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT are doing:

  • Notifying Units, Leaders and Volunteers urgently.
  • Ensuring any sand products in Halls or storage are not handled or opened.
  • Directing all teams to follow the ACCC safe disposal instructions.
  •  Advising Units to contact the relevant retailer for refunds after disposal.
  •  Encouraging Leaders to check any sand purchased for craft days, sensory play or special events dating back to 2020.
  • Collecting a register of recalled kinetic sand products by impacted area.
