Sock Puppets

Age Range: 5 - 10 years
Time Required: 20 minutes
Fundamental: World Guiding

Puppets can be very simple or complicated, but all puppets are fun to make, use and love. Puppets can be stringed puppets or marionettes, rod puppets, glove puppets, finger/hand puppets or shadow puppets. You can make puppets from almost anything! Whatever you make your puppet from, make sure you remember that all puppets like to do something and move around a lot. So bring your puppet to life and let it have lots of fun!

Materials Needed

  • Old socks
  • Marker pen, felt circles, sticky funny foam shapes or buttons for eyes
  • Wool or string for hair
  • Scissors
  • Glue or cotton and a needle

Instructions

  1. Choose an old sock to come to life
  2. Select and place your eyes. There are many things you could add for eyes so use your imagination. If using a Hot Glue Gun make sure you have an older family member to help. If using buttons and sewing on your eyes ask for a bit of help if you need it to thread your needle and to get you started. If you are using craft glue set your puppet aside for a while to let the glue dry.
  3. Select some hair. Same as with the eyes, glue or sew your hair into place.
  4. When your puppet is ready, practice how it will talk or sing. Find another puppet to talk to or plan a puppet show.
