Vaccination fact sheet for NSW Volunteers and Employees

We understand not everyone wants to get vaccinated. We respect vaccination is a personal choice. While health advice informs us the risk of being unvaccinated is significant, accepting that risk in your personal life remains your personal choice.

However, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT has a legal responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our Girl Guides, all our Members, all our volunteers, all our helpers and supporters, and all our employees.

In Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT, it is the role of the State Commissioner team and the Guide House management team to assess risk in Girl Guides and to determine the level of risk we are willing to accept.

We will be working to assess the risk unvaccinated people could pose to our Guiding operations, our people (both vaccinated and non-vaccinated), their families, households, and the community we serve.

We are also working to understand what other organisations are doing and what industry associations are recommending.

The NSW Government health order states from the Monday after we reach the 70% vaccination rate, only those who are fully vaccinated can attend indoor recreation facilities and entertainment facilities. Service NSW has advised that Guide Halls are major recreation facilities.

As such, if you are unvaccinated and can assist with Guiding remotely, that is how you can continue to be a tremendous asset to your District.

For more information please see our vaccination FAQs.

As of the 70% and 80% vaccination dates, those who are unvaccinated will not be able to attend public places including recreation facilities, entertainment facilities, restaurants, hairdressers, and shopping centres. As such, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT cannot operate differently to this and cannot permit unvaccinated people to be on site at Girl Guide halls and properties.

The NSW Government has set 1 December as the date where this restriction can be lifted. Health Orders have been changing often in the past few months.

We want to assure everybody that vaccination status will not be a cause for discrimination at Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT. Our Promise, our Law, and our Code of Conduct, which expects respect and dignity and fair treatment for all and a responsibility for one’s own actions, will be upheld in this regard.

More than ever, we must remain kind and compassionate as we serve our community. We must respect ourselves and others; be considerate, honest, and trustworthy; friendly to others; make choices for a better world; use our time and abilities wisely; be thoughtful and optimistic; and live with courage and strength.

Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT strongly recommends and encourages all volunteers, members, and employees to be vaccinated.
