International Opportunities with Girl Guides

04 November 2022

In June 2022, Olave Member Laura Howard took a leap of faith and booked a trip to Pune, India. She prepared herself for a visit to Sangam, for its Come Home Event. She left Australia with a heart full of anticipation and came home with a whole library full of memories. Read more about her visit below:

So this June I took a leap and booked myself into Sangam's Come Home Event, their first international event since Covid shut-down. Having only been overseas twice and never on my own I felt like I was truly living for the challenge. The staff at Sangam are great with booking airport transfers and giving you all the information you need on how to get there and what to expect. The event that I participated in at Sangam was structured around getting Sangam and its staff ready to re-open its doors to international guests. It was a great opportunity to give back and reconnect with international Guiding while also getting to better understand another culture. Sangam and Our Chalet are both offering a variety of amazing opportunities with events, internships and volunteer roles. I can't wait for my next overseas adventure and would love to take a group of Olaves some time in the future.

What is Sangam?

Sangam, meaning ‘Coming Together’ in Sanskrit, was founded with the intent to unite Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from around the world. Since 1966, our World Centre in Pune, India, has been a place to grow, connect and have fun with one another. Sangam is always open to visitors and you can pay a visit in so many ways: join them for an Event, stay as an independent guest, or just visit for the day! You can find out more about what's on at Sangam here
