Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT appoints new CEO

The Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of the Association’s new Chief Executive Officer Carol Simpson.

Carol brings to the role more than 20 years’ experience in Executive roles, cultivated through her experiences in a variety of industries most recently in the Higher Education Sector at Western Sydney University and including, AMP & the Suncorp Group, Ericsson, the Telstra Group and Deloitte.  She also brings lived experience as a Girl Guide in Victoria and a diverse portfolio of volunteer management positions in Girl Guides NSW ACT & NT including in the Northern Sydney Region of Guiding in Australia. Carol will draw on this diverse, extensive experience to apply her broad skill set to the benefit of the Association. 

Passionate about supporting the future of Guiding and enabling the delivery of a high-quality program, to reach more girls and women, Carol firmly believes “that working together the volunteers and staff that comprise the Guiding community can achieve amazing things.”

Carol’s vision for Guiding is "to develop a sustainable and progressive organisation that allows girls and young women to develop resilience and confidence to better their world”.  Being passionate about empowerment for girls and women, Carol believes “that Guiding has a pivotal role to play in our community.

“It is a privilege for me to support the Guiding community – every girl should have access to a nurturing and supportive environment, be able to experiment and learn new things and to have a voice that is heard. Every woman should have a space where they can contribute and belong to a community of like-minded and supportive women. My own resilience and adaptability stems from my time as a Brownie and Guide.

“As I begin my tenure as CEO, I would like to thank Helen White who has laid a strong foundation upon which to build.  I am very excited to be partnering with Emily Milton Smith as the State Commissioner to steer the next evolution of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT” concluded Carol.

Speaking to the appointment, Board Chair and State Commissioner, Emily Milton Smith said “Carol brings a wealth of experience to the role of CEO. She is a proven executive manager whose diverse experience, including the strategic redevelopment projects with Western Sydney University, will be invaluable.

“Carol is a strategic leader. Her deep understanding of Girl Guides will position her to effectively collaborate and deliver value for our Guiding community across its various levels and enable her to manage diverse stakeholders”. 

Carol commenced the role of CEO on 12 July in a part time capacity and starts full time on 22 August 2022, embarking on her journey to steer Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT towards executing on the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan.
