Statement from the Board Chair - Michelle Kothe |
|
|
As Chair of the Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT Board, it is my role to encourage the nomination and election to the Board of nominees who form a dynamic and well-rounded team to lead our organisation effectively. It’s vital that our Board attracts a variety of skillsets and perspectives, and one of the most important responsibilities of our Board it its ability to engage with younger generations and foster engagement with the organisation's Mission.
I am writing to wholeheartedly endorse Aine Leonard, Kerry Rymer, Anna Cook, and Michelle Kothe as candidates for the upcoming Board elections. Additionally, I express my support for Alex McFadyen as the under 30s candidate. Each of these individuals possesses qualities that align seamlessly with the vision and values of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT.
Aine Leonard and Michelle Kothe, both seeking re-election, have demonstrated unwavering commitment and expertise during their tenure on the Board. Their experience and deep understanding of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT’s mission have been pivotal in guiding us through challenges and facilitating our growth. Along with the Board, Aine and Michelle have been focused on initiatives such as bringing on a Chief Financial Officer to strengthen our organisation's strategic financial expertise and management. Another initiative includes the recently implemented Board sponsored People and Culture project to implement an external HR service which can provide us with advice, coaching and strengthen people management skills and systems across all of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT. Their People and Culture and volunteer focus to ensure we are living our Mission to empower women is also evident through their work on Board programs such as improvements to our digital services, governance changes to relieve volunteer burden at all levels and professionalisation of our Board and senior management. I believe their continued presence on the Board is essential for maintaining the momentum and continuity necessary for sustained success.
Kerry Rymer and Anna Cook are both new candidates and bring fresh perspectives and a wealth of skills to the table. Their unique insights, professional acumen, and shared dedication to Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT’s goals will make them invaluable additions to the Board. Embracing new voices and ideas is crucial for our organisation's evolution, and I am confident that Kerry and Anna will contribute significantly to our future endeavors.
Moreover, I am excited to endorse Alex McFadyen as the under 30s candidate. Recognising the importance of engaging younger generations, Alex's enthusiasm, and a deep understanding of the youth perspective will undoubtedly bring a dynamic energy to the Board. Alex’s active engagement as a youth leader and in the Olave program as well as strong experience at a Region and State level will bring a perspective focused clearly on the delivery of our Mission to empower girls and young women.
It is vital for our Elected Directors to have a recent and active connection with the youth community, and all these candidates have current involvement with Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT that exemplifies this commitment.
As we approach these elections, let us remember the significance of Board continuity and the need for Directors with a comprehensive understanding of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT's Mission.
I urge all Members to consider the collective strength that Aine Leonard, Kerry Rymer, Anna Cook, Michelle Kothe, and Alex McFadyen bring to Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT. Their combined skills, experience, and passion make them the ideal candidates to lead us into a bright and promising future.
