Happy World Environment Day for Monday just gone! The theme of #BeatPlasticPollution focusses on solutions to plastic pollution. There are many ways to tackle plastic waste and I encourage you get engaged and take action for the environment!
Over the weekend, I joined Girl Guiding in Australia (GGiA) Leadership in Sydney for the GGiA Strategy Day. This comprised of the GGA (Girl Guides Australia) Board, Commissioners, Chairs and CEOs from across all 7 entities who came together to reflect, share and strategise on ways to better deliver on our Mission and reach more girls and young women. The AGM (Annual General Meeting) of Girl Guides Australia was then held where the 2022 GGA Annual Report was presented. You can read more about the national footprint and our collective impact in the report online at the GGA website, here.
A series of other meetings were held over the weekend, including with the Chairs and Commissioners of GGiA (all our SGGOs (State Girl Guide Organisations) and GGA) as well as Roundtables of State and Region Guiding Management Teams. Current and future Trainers and Workshop Presenters also gathered on Sunday to reset for the rest of the year and beyond.
The weekend prior, I was delighted to visit the ACT & SE NSW Region, and joined the Region Adult Awards Recognition Dinner – connecting with so many Members. I was thrilled to spend time with more Adult Members and Youth Members at a series of events the following day, including a Region Archery Training and Afternoon Tea Event at the Region Centre, as well as visiting the Region Property Innabayna.
Like many others who have been out and about, there are plenty of Girl Guide events happening right now across NSW, ACT & NT at all levels, with opportunities to weave bonds and knit together our Girl Guiding community to bind us fast. |

Be a Voice for Generations |

Last week, we observed National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week from 27 May till 3 June and next month is NAIDOC Week across 2–9 July. I know many Units continue to focus their program and activities on understanding Australia’s reconciliation journey and learning more about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and how we can each contribute to achieving reconciliation. Follow the hyperlinks in this section to learn more and access key resources you might like to use with your Unit.
We would love to see your programs in action, so please submit any content (photos, short videos etc) to the team at Guide House directly to help add to our media library!
If you are interested in supporting Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT’s reconciliation journey or Girl Guides Australia, specifically our RAP efforts, please get in touch! Email an expression of interest to the State Commissioner’s Executive Assistant, Michelle Duncan at: [email protected] |

Changes to Outdoor Leader Roles |
|
Following a review of the Outdoor Leader role and its uptake in 2022, a decision by the Australian Guiding Committee has been made to remove the Outdoor Leader role from the ALQP.
As a result, all qualified Outdoor Leaders have been transferred to the Resource Leader role. This means anyone wishing to become a Resource Leader will need to complete the Unit Leader qualification as is the current requirement for that role. All previous Outdoor Leaders were made aware of the change last week however if you have any questions regarding the change or what it means, contact Member Services below. |
