07 October 2022 | To all Adult Members, Trefoil, Junior Leaders, YAC |
|
Next week is International Day of the Girl Child with a global theme of ‘Our time is now – our rights, our future”. WAGGGS is encouraging Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to raise their voice through the global youth consultation #GirlsSpeakUp . If you are a Leader, please give this activity pack a go!
This global day is a chance to focus on the leadership of girls, call for greater investment to support girls flourish and take action to improve girls’ lives around the world.
Nearly a fortnight ago, I attended the Australian Trefoil Guild Gathering in Newcastle, with Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT the host State Girl Guiding Organisation. In my address to the Trefoil Guild, I reflected on their important stewardship of our Girl Guiding movement, as it’s their shoulders upon whom we stand. I also shared a call to action for Trefoil Guild Members to consider how they can continue to strengthen Girl Guiding and invest in capacity building for our organisation. This could be fundraising for Girl Guides, but it also includes supporting Leaders in their Guiding journey, connecting in with local Units and engaging with our Youth Members.
If you are Leader, please get in contact with your local Trefoil Guild and invite them to engage with you. What skills could they share? What activities could you do together?
Girl Guiding is an organisation committed to empowering girls and young women, and we do this with intergenerational sharing, going hand in hand together

Department of Social Services (DSS) Respect Campaign with Guiding in Australia
|
Girl Guides Australia was invited by the DSS to partner on their RESPECT campaign as part of Communities Taking Action, which showcases how communities around Australia are making a positive change and promoting respectful attitudes.
Girl Guides have always been advocates for respect. As positive changemakers, Guides are empowered to continue to promote respectful attitudes in helping shape a better future for the communities we serve.
The campaign includes a video shared via the Respect.gov.au website and supporting social media posts.
You may recognise Chief Commissioner Rosemary Derwin and Cherrybrook’s Dakshata Sharma who were interviewed for the content along with two Guides from Dak’s Unit, Grace and Aditi, with support from co-Leader Julie and Guides from the Unit. Cherrybrook is in the Northern Sydney Region

Lark in the Park
|
Unfortunately, Lark in the Park has been postponed due to concerns arising from the Bureau of Meteorology's declaration of a continued La Niña weather event and the unfavourable forecast for November. We understand many Pre-junior and Junior Guides have been looking forward to this event, and we aim to hold a special one-off one-day version of this event next year (in Autumn) to fill the gap for these girls. This special event will be in addition to the planned annual occurrence of Lark in the Park with its overnight inclusion in November

|
Dolphin Day |
Dolphin Day is being held over two days in November and is another great outdoor event for this age group—a day of canoeing, kayaking, rowing, and, for the adrenaline seekers, a ride in our fast-paced powerboats at RTS Tingira! Tap here to find out more.
