As we come to the close of 2022, please take a moment to pause and reflect on the incredible resilience and determination of each you – rising to the challenge of a changing world and continuing to find new ways to reach more girls and create even more impact! This year has been filled with so much and the end of the year is an opportunity to see how far we have come together. And look forward to our next chapter.
As some of us prepare for the Jamboree in Ballarat in the New Year and we look for new opportunities to have fun, and make a difference, please use this holiday period to rest, slow down and shift paces – and to give thanks to one another. Thanks to ourselves (look at how much we have all done) and thanks to everyone around us. Guiding is powered by our people, and this is a great opportunity to celebrate one another, and give ourselves a pat on the back as well for a job well done. And it has been a job well done!
Gratitude is a practice. It is a way we can be thoughtful and optimistic. It is a way we can respect other people, but also, respect ourselves and be grateful for who we are as individuals and the choices we make for a better world. Gratitude also helps us strengthen our Guiding bonds and take stock of the incredible difference every single person in our movement makes every day.
Signing off for the year, I look forward to connecting with so many of you in 2023 and seeing many of your faces at the virtual 1-day conference for all our Adult Members on 11 February – We Are All In This Together – and we truly are, so make sure you are there! |

2023 Membership Fee Increase |
|
Earlier this week you would have received an email from me as Board Chair on behalf of the Board of Directors, letting you know about changes to membership fees.
There has been much robust conversation among the Board of Directors, and the Finance Committee that advises the Board, around striking the right balance between covering the costs of membership and ensuring the sustainability of Girl Guides to allow future generations to benefit from the Girl Guides experience.
If you know of any Youth Members in your Districts and Units that will be adversely affected by the 2023 fee increase, please let them know about the Guides Support Fund, and encourage them to apply for once off support to have their membership fee reduced or covered, so that we can continue to deliver the benefits of the Guide Program to every girl and any girl. |

International Travel Update |
|
The Girl Guides Australia Board has further reviewed international travel for Australian Guiding members. GGA acknowledges the importance of international opportunities in Guiding whilst focused on balancing the value of those opportunities with risk management considerations.
Effective from 1 June 2023, international travel may resume to approved Guiding events (including camps and jamborees) by youth members, adult members, contingents and individuals, subject to the requirements set out below and all usual risk management considerations: |
|
- Travel insurance is a requirement to attend events overseas which the traveller is to obtain themselves. Travellers take full responsibility for meeting all expenses not covered by their travel insurance including any costs relating to requirements to quarantine.
- Travellers must meet all requirements for the country they are visiting and for returning to Australia.
- Travellers should travel by the most direct route and only transit through other countries where direct flights are not available.
- Travellers are to register their travel plans (here or by email to National Coordinator - International at [email protected]) in advance, including confirmation that they have all relevant vaccines as recommended by their medical adviser.
