How can we uplift our leadership focus? How can we provide more opportunities to get outdoors? How might we accelerate our action on climate change and the environment to make choices for a better world? How can we connect with other networks and partners to expand Girl Guides and reach any girl and every girl?
These are the sorts of questions our governance and management teams consider and were key features at both the Region Personnel Conference and our Board Strategy Day held last weekend, where we welcomed four newly Elected Directors.
These key events have provided greater clarity and a shared vision on how we will evolve and work together to deliver our Strategy and achieve our Mission. Our recruitment efforts for a new CEO also continue.
There is much enthusiasm and courage in the promise Girl Guides continues to offer, by making a positive change in the lives of girls and young women, and the communities in which we live, work and play. It is about our impact.
With Region Personnel, the AGM, and the Board Strategy Day wrapped up, we are looking forward to the year ahead and onward to 2023. There are so many exciting things in the pipeline!

Child Safe Child Friendly Modules |
|
Thank you for your efforts in ensuring our organisation complies with the GGA CSCF Framework introduced in Oct 2021. Mandatory child safety requirements for our Members and Non-Member Ongoing Volunteers include State/Territory Child Safety Checks and National Police Checks (NPC) and the completion of CSCF eGuiding modules.
For Leaders & Managers, the first deadline for eGuiding is fast approaching! Have you started your eGuiding modules? If not, please prioritise completing these modules to assist us in strengthening our focus as a Child Safe Child Friendly community.
Please click on the links for information on what you need to do in these areas. I am proud of the commitment and work done in this area by both Volunteers and Staff. Girl Guides is proud to be a Child Safe Child Friendly organisation. Please see Guide Lines for more information on the GGA CSCF Framework and supporting resources. |

70 Years on the Throne! |
|
Her Majesty The Queen is celebrating a Platinum Jubilee. As part of the official celebrations with the Platinum Beacons: Lighting up the Jubilee, I am proud to share I lit the Beacon for Australia last night on Thursday 2 June. I decided to make the Beacon a traditional Girl Guide campfire. Campfires are sharing circles, a place where we all meet as friends, to cook food, sing songs, and dream big. It is a simple but meaningful tradition, uniting our Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting sisters around the world.
The Queen was a Girl Guide, and no doubt made friends, learnt skills, and had fun around a campfire. Ascending to the throne in her mid-twenties, The Queen showed the world the strength and courage of young women when they lead.
Her Majesty would have learnt so much in her Guiding journey and set in stone some of the foundations of who she would become. I like to think The Queen’s practicality and sense of duty to make a positive difference in the world comes from her time in Girl Guiding.
How will you be joining in on the celebrations to mark the occasion? Please consider also sharing the Guiding light and adding to the flame of hope for the world’s young people. I would love to see your photos and invite you to hold a campfire like me to reflect on our legacy and our hope for the future! |

Awards and Honour Role |
|
Awards are an excellent way to celebrate the contributions and achievements of the many people who make Girl Guiding great! In light of all the wonderful things our Members are achieving, I am pleased to share a new addition to our website, Awards & Recognition, which acknowledges Adult Good Service Awards, Non-Member Awards and Asia Pacific Awards achieved by Members in 2021.
The publishing of Award recipients will be a continued practice moving forward. This reflects our commitment to acknowledging our Members and showing our collective gratitude for the impact you make. Your contributions are certainly noticed and appreciated!
The full Honour Roll can be found on our website’s homepage, in the drop-down menu beside the What’s On tab. Here, you and the wider community will find a comprehensive list of Award recipients for the 2021 year.
Share this page with your family, friends and wider community! Stand proud! |

Volunteer of the Year Awards |
|
We received some amazing stories and acknowledgements of our Members during National Volunteer Week. There is still time to submit a nomination for a Volunteer you’d like to see recognised!
Every year, each State and Territory host the Volunteer of the Year Awards. Last year over 150 Girl Guides volunteers across NSW, ACT & NT were recognised through these Awards for their dedication to our organisation. What a tremendous outcome!
By nominating, you help Girl Guides Volunteers be recognised for the impact they make to shape communities and change lives. Awards also raise the profile of Girl Guides as a great organisation making a real difference! Spread the love and nominate someone today! |

Our targeted radio campaign is complete! |
|
For the first time Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT were officially broadcast across the Southern Cross Austereo network as part of a targeted brand campaign!
Our 30 second ad was broadcast to Triple M and Hit stations in Wagga, Dubbo and Canberra. We received varied results, with Canberra reporting a marked increase in Youth Enquiries during the weeks of and following the campaign. Visits to our website increaed by an outstanding 316 per cent!
Website metrics also proved an increase in navigation to our ‘Find a Unit’ webpage and the Membership Team can attest to an uptick in Youth Enquiries via the website and by phone.
Results in Dubbo and Wagga were less successful. Before the end of the campaign, paid social media advertising allowed us to target postcodes throughout these Districts. These ads certainly increased traffic to our website and we are hopeful while we await a comprehensive results report.
The ad is uplifting and inspiring and we hope to look at new opportunities to use it to reach more communities. Follow the link to listen to the ad! |
