Happy International Youth Day! Today we reflect on the power and potential of youth, and the role each of us must play to deliver justice for young people and take action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Girl Guides, we promise to make choices for a better world, and our action on the SDGs is in service of us all – creating a more equitable world where girls and young can thrive. How are you engaging in this day and helping to spread its message?
Over the weekend, I was delighted to join in at the State Award Ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our girls and young women. What a way to recognise the leadership and resilience of young women who are already showing the world the difference they can make when we let girls lead. Changemakers!

Congratulations all State Award Recipients |
BRAVO! To all our Award recipients who along with their families, attended this year’s State Award Ceremony at NSW Government House this past Saturday. Congratulations and very well done! This year, 20 awardees accepted 21 awards, each recognised for their dedication and perseverance over what was a difficult 2 years for us all.
Each of the 3 Deputy State Commissioners, Shaylah McClymont, Kerrey Williams, and Lisa Walters and I were in attendance along with Rosemary Derwin, Chief Commissioner of Girl Guides Australia.
On a personal note, I was also an award recipient, receiving the Olave Challenge. This is an award for Olaves to undertake and as 1 of 3 in NSW, ACT & NT who have finished the Challenge, I’d like to encourage Olaves to live for the challenge and have a go! |

Happy International Youth Day 2022 |
Happy International Youth Day! Every year this United Nations-recognised day acknowledges the importance of empowering young people. Greater action is needed across all generations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and leave no one behind. The theme for this year’s International Youth Day is Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages. |
This year’s theme recognises change occurs in partnership, and we must all work together to ensure the world we leave for the next generation is even better than the one into which they were born.
At the core of this theme is the importance of solidarity across all generations in assisting us to achieve more sustainable development. We, as the older generation, must stand in solidarity with our youth to ensure equitable access to health, justice, employment and participation. #BeSeenBeHeard #YouthDay
Communications were sent out to all Youth Members earlier today. |

Our Second Radio Pilot is Complete! |
Our second radio pilot across Central Coast, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie is now complete! For 4 weeks, our 15-second radio advertisement was aired across peak times on Hit Stations in Coastal Valleys and North Pacific Coast regions. Some quick stats from the pilot: |
- 243 website visits across the campaign, a 77% increase
- Central Coast was the most responsive station, driving 0.4 website visits per advert played on air
- More visits and new visits were generated in the second half of the campaign; coinciding with the beginning of school Term for NSW, ACT & NT
Running at the same time was our social media campaign which was an astounding success! Collectively, the campaign reached 32,600 Facebook users and resulted in 68 visits to our joinguides.com.au URL alone!
We owe this success to you, our ‘Guide army’, for banding together and promoting each of these posts to your networks and community pages. Well done! |
