Last week’s newsletter was delayed as we shared news of The Queen and encouraged Girl Guides to recognise and reflect on the legacy of The Queen and the special connection Her Majesty had with the Girl Guiding movement. We continue to do this, and across the coming days and weeks, please consider ways we can all pay our respects and raise the profile of Girl Guides by engaging with our local communities.
Thursday 22 September is a public holiday in recognition of Her Majesty’s death. Please pause any standard programming/your Unit meeting, and consider alternative days to meet, or perhaps look at ways you can engage your Girl Guides in a meaningful pause as we mourn. You will have received separate communications regarding condolences and my strong encouragement to engage girls in recognising the death of The Queen.
In this week’s newsletter, there are several valuable updates and opportunities encouraging you to expand your Guiding experience and try new things. Please have a think about what’s next and how you might add-value and continue to serve.
Also next week is Global Goals Week: 19-23 September: an opportunity to inspire Girl Guides to consider and plan their action for the Sustainable Development Goals. Global Goals Week coincides with the United Nations General Assembly where the world’s leaders gather to discuss our future. We know girls are the future and the role girls play today as leaders in their communities reflects our deep commitment to making choices for a better world and letting girls lead! There are plenty of resources available and I recommend The World’s Largest Lesson and their Transforming Education resources as a great start. |

Calling all Changemakers! |
|
Girls and young women aged 21 years and younger are invited to take part in the Raise Our Voice in Parliament campaign. Girl Guides Australia is partnering with Raise Our Voice Australia alongside other organisations such as UNICEF Australia and the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition.
This is an exciting opportunity where youth across Australia are invited to submit a 200-word speech to their local MP, and if successful, will be read to Federal MPs during Youth Voice in Parliament week!
Speeches should address the prompt, “What should Australia’s new Parliament accomplish?” FAQs and a speech template can be found on the website here!
But first, check out the list of participating electorates here.
Submissions close on 19 October. |

Become an Archery Trainer |
|
All Leaders and Adult Members – particularly who are already archery supervisors – are encouraged to step up and become an Archery Trainer!
At present, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT only has 2 leaders who conduct archery qualification trainings. Let’s build this team and get more leaders training archery and enabling more girls to get outdoors!
The process to become an Archery Trainer is to complete the Archery Australia level 1 Qualification, Girl Guides Workshop Presenter course, observer an Archery Training, and then help facilitate an Archery Training. This is a wonderful opportunity to expand your Girl Guiding experience to include more meaning and positive impact on girls and young women. |
