Situated on picturesque Hen and Chicken Bay, RTS Tingira is the hub of Girl Guides’ water activities—with sailing, canoeing, rowing, powerboating and more! For those in the know, RTS stands for Ranger Training Ship. It's a name steeped in tradition.
Hen and Chicken Bay, on the Parramatta River in Sydney’s inner west, is an ideal boating location – calm enough for canoeing, yet with enough open water for sailing. It’s a popular location for rowing regattas, fishing and all sorts of water activities.
RTS Tingira is only available for hire by Guide Members. The perfect place for the young and the young-at-heart to explore sailing and boating, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT can organise sailing courses with our qualified instructors for private Guide groups.
RTS Tingira is also available for hire by our Members, for Guide functions and meetings.
RTS Tingira consists of two main buildings: the Boatshed and Woody's.
The Boatshed includes a pontoon for launching our many boats and for catching those local fish. Inside the Boatshed is a great space for meetings and award ceremonies as well as a storage area where our full complement of canoes, row boats, power boats and sail boats are kept.
Woody’s Galley is our fabulous galley building, with a full commercial stainless steel kitchen, meeting/dining room and toilets. Woody’s is perfect for group meetings and cooking workshops. Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT can organise sailing and power boating courses for private Guide only groups. The buildings can also be hired by our Members for Guide-related functions and meetings, including pre-approved overnight stay options for those travelling from interstate.
RTS Tingira provides state of the art equipment, qualified instructors, and the perfect location for Guides of all ages to learn the many aspects of boating and sailing.. General boating activities are available to Guide Units and Guide Members by arrangement with Guide House.
