What did you get up to at Guides this term? Did you achieve a new badge? Or work towards one? What new things did you discover about yourself, and your outer world? Did you strengthen friendships? Make new ones? What about an outdoor adventure? Did you go on an overnight camp? |
|
Whatever you got up to in Term 3 of Guiding we hope you got to inject a little bit more fun, discovery, adventure and learning into your weeks. After all, Girl Guides is all about making memories and cherishing moments! |

Fun Holiday Activities |
Ages 5-10 |
|
With the warmer months upon us, it's an amazing time to get outdoors and connect with nature. There's so much to explore in the world around us, and you'll be surprised with what you might find, even if it's right outside your front door! From birds and insects to all different types of plants, your chance to discover something new is endless!
|
|
Who Lives Here? |
This activity asks Girl Guides to make a study of insects and the environments in which they live. Grab some gardening gloves, a magnifying glass, and a piece of paper, and begin to explore the world of insects around your home. |
|
Instructions: |
- Carefully lift a stone, log, rock or leaf matter (make sure you're wearing gloves!).
- Observe any insects you might have uncovered (you might need a magnifying glass for smaller critters).
- Make a file of the insects you saw, including a drawing, where you found it, and some of its distinct behavioural patterns (How did it move? Was it fast or slow? etc).
- Repeat the steps as many times as you like, but make sure that any materials moved are placed back into their original positions.

GGS Fundraisers
Thank You! |
|
These past few months fundraising for the Great Guide Sleepover have been a whirlwind to say the least! With two fantastic causes over the three events, it has been so amazing to see so many of you get involved for the greater good. All contributions (big or small) will go a long way in the conservation of so many different animal species. So, BRAVO!
A very big THANK YOU to all those who contributed to the Dubbo cause, together you were able to raise a whopping $5,213 for the Taronga Conservation Society!
An extensive list of all individual contributions over $50, as well as our thanks to the Great Guide Sleepover Planning Committees can be found here.

Nat's Guiding Journey |
All ages |
|
Natalie Schmitzer is a long-time Guide Member in the North Pacific Coast Region of NSW. She joined Girl Guides in Year 1, inspired by her cousins who were already enjoying Guides, and her Aunty who was one of the Leaders! Since then, she’s never looked back.
Now, Nat serves as the State Olave Program Committee Chairperson and is filling her cup with Guides as much as she can, as often as she can.
"In Year 1, our parents let us start extra-curricular activities. My cousins were in the Guide Unit and my Aunty was one of the Leaders.
I joined Brownies (Junior Guides) in my hometown of Wauchope where I still return for Unit and Region based camps when I can. In fact, next week we are hosting 'Teddy's Adventure Camp', a tradition we have had in our Region, honouring one of our well-loved, adventure-loving leaders. I attended my first Teddy's when I was 10 and I'm still going back for more!" |

Junior BP Award |
Guides 7+ |
|
The Junior BP Award is the first high-level achievement award of the Australian Guide Program, and it’s a pretty big deal! To achieve this Award, girls from 7 years must complete a series of challenges and activities in each of the fundamental areas of Guiding. These include:
Promise and Law; Outdoors; Service; World Guiding; Guiding Traditions; Leadership; and Patrol System.
Girls who complete their Junior BP display an impressive ability to think about, decide on, carry out, evaluate, and stick to challenges they set themselves!
Upon completing 6 challenges, girls will receive their Bronze Endeavour Award. Once completing 12 challenges, girls receive their Junior BP certificate, a metal and cloth badge, and are normally presented at a special ceremony organised by their Unit Leader. |

Now's your chance to work towards this fantastic achievement!
