His Majesty The King was crowned on the weekend. I was delighted to join one of the various events held to mark the occasion – a picnic bringing together community organisations and the public, with Northern Sydney Region hosting a highly engaging PR stall.
There will be many views about The King, about monarchy, about Australia’s relationship with the Crown, and how we might reckon with our histories, write our next chapter, and create the future.
Symbols matter, and I choose to focus on the symbols of duty, service, and courage, all of which are reflected in the man formerly known as Prince.
The King will continue his admirable service to country and Commonwealth, and our planet. Some years ago, I met The King, and we discussed the environment and the role of young people in creating change. I believe His Majesty’s belief in young people and aspirations of a better world for all provide hope for generations to come, as well as a reminder that our communities are defined by the everyday choices we make. In how we shop, how we eat, how we commute, how we care for things and for others. How we speak to others or about others, and how we speak to and about ourselves.
So, in the days and weeks following the Coronation, but in truth, every day, let us continue to make choices for a better world and focus on the inspiration each of us provide by continuing to do our best and serve our community.

Updated Forms for Guiding in Australia |
|
You may recall from the 24 April edition of this newsletter that Girl Guides Australia has introduced a new suite of privacy related policy and processes. A privacy collection statement is now required on every form that collects personal information, including (but not limited to) ADMs 27 and 28, and OUT.01 and .03. As such, there have been new versions of many of the forms we all use regularly uploaded to Guide Lines.
There are also a number of forms on Guide Lines that have now been made into fillable PDFs, so you don’t have to print, fill out by hand, and scan in or photograph to return. You’ll recognise the updated forms immediately, as many of the old ones have been updated to the current look and feel of the newer Guiding in Australia forms.
So please, resist the temptation to download local versions of these files and remember to visit the Guide Lines for Girl Guides website to access the latest versions. The privacy policy information links on our websites and in automated processes have all been or are in the state of being updated. |

Lark in the Park 2023 |
|
After years’ worth of postponements and cancellations, it was so exciting to finally host Lark in the Park 2023 in the new Western Sydney Parklands venue! Plenty of fun was had by 100 Pre-Junior and Junior Guides from across the State and Territories. Some Members travelled as far as Leeton!
Keep an eye out for Lark in the Park 2024 communications and secure a spot for you and your Unit as soon as possible! It’s a fantastic day out, offering plenty of opportunities to learn, laugh, play, and explore. |
