Recently we marked the anniversary of the death of Her Majesty The Queen and reflected on the changes in our communities and the world. The Queen was deeply committed to empowering young people to realise their potential and make a positive difference in their world. And I like to believe this reflects an approach of community-building, and recognising how deeply connected we all are.
Tomorrow’s R U OK? Day is a valuable reminder that all of us are people. We are people. And we each are faced with challenges and navigate the world using both our hearts and our heads – and we feel, and we think. More than ever, we need a reminder to be kind to ourselves and others – and be the changemakers who build people up and genuinely empower them.
Peter Drucker, a well-known management consultant wrote ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast’. There are amazing initiatives occurring to enable our movement to reach more girls and young women, and engage more volunteers. It requires bold changes and big shifts to future-proof our movement, and implement our purpose.
We each have a responsibility to our people and culture, to strengthen the positive, and continuously build and improve – so that people come and play and come and stay with our organisation.
Let’s remember how we show up for each other, and how we show up for ourselves. |

R U OK? Day |
Thursday 13 September |
|
This Thursday, 14 September is National ‘R U OK?’ Day. ‘R U OK?’ is a public health promotion charity that encourages connections and conversations that can work to help others through difficult times. You will receive a separate email from our Inclusion Lead Julia Becker who is the focal point for our mental health and wellbeing strategies in our organisation. Julia’s role involves promoting mental health, wellbeing and fitness, and facilitating opportunities to build literacy and capability in this space. She recently presented the Mental Health Strategy Plan to Region Teams at Region Personnel Conference in August, with our efforts to roll our Mental Health First Aid Training and other programs to support you as individuals, as well as those of you who are leaders in bringing these concepts to our Youth Members.
This National Day is a wonderful opportunity to spark conversations about mental health and wellbeing to those who need it most. On this day, we encourage all Members of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT to take this as a chance to check in with those close to them, because you never know what someone is going through.
Sometimes, a simple question can go a long way. You could ask: Are you OK? How have you been lately? Do you need someone to talk to? |

International Day of the Girl |
|
IDG 2023 is just around the corner! WAGGGS have launched the theme for this year, ‘Resilience’. By strengthening girls’ resilience, we equip them with the necessary tools to face the pressures and challenges of growing up in a changing world. With resilience in their toolkits, girls can develop the confidence to be brave, to innovate, and can truly feel prepared to lead change in their communities! |

Trefoil Guild: CSCF for Adults in Guiding |
Face to Face Sessions |
|
Have you heard the news? More Face-to-face Child Safe Child Friendly (CSCF) for Adult in Guiding will be held across NSW, ACT & NT spanning now to November 2023. We want to support our valuable Trefoil Guild Members to meet the end of 2023 deadline.
There are 7 confirmed sessions, with additional dates to be added to the training calendar! A CSCF Accredited Trainer will take Trefoil Guild attendees through the module in a positive, supportive environment.
Please note, while the deadline relates to your CSCF learning (i.e. the learning modules), Working With Children Checks and Police Checks are required to be provided now. Please don’t delay in providing this information to ensure we can meet the standards provided for in CSCF.
We appreciate your cooperation and kindness to the staff and volunteers who may remind you and others of these requirements. Everyone is trying their best. |

Outdoor Adventures & Experiences! |
|
As part of the current Adult Recruitment Campaign, I am thrilled to announce our second Virtual Campfire Meetup! The theme for our upcoming Campfire is Outdoor Adventures and Experiences – offering us an invaluable chance to share the unique experiences on offer to Adults at Girl Guides!
Don’t forget, these Virtual Campfires are suited to members of the public, families of Girl Guides, and anyone interested in learning more about Guides. They’re designed to introduce different aspects of Guiding to external audiences and are an integral part of the recruitment process: engaging, informing, and invigorating new leads/enquiries. |
