This is the first edition of the State Commissioner’s newsletter since the last General Meeting was held. It has been a time of reflection and sadness for many. Another General Meeting will be held next Saturday. The resourcing required to manage the necessary processes is significant and the impact on current operations has been challenging at best.
We are also nearly at the end of the year, and it is difficult to maintain the normal course of celebrations and wrap up. Many Units and Districts have kept on, and the information in this newsletter as organisational updates are part of this commitment to trying to restore some normal rhythms and provide information to our Leaders and Managers doing incredible work in communities across NSW, ACT & NT to empower girls and young women.
There have been several important dates in November recognising many important causes. Right now, we are in 16 Days of Activism – a global campaign led by UN Women focussed on ending gender-based violence. WAGGGS has a long-standing involvement in this campaign. Women and girls should be safe no matter what. Safe. Everywhere. Always. Follow the link to get involved with UN Women Australia to join the conversation and walk to end violence. |

Cash's District Fundraiser |
|
Girl Guides Australia has partnered with Cash's to develop an exciting new fundraising initiative. This initiative has launched nationally in November 2023 to support your District fundraiser efforts and will run through March 2024 where it will be then reviewed to determine future viability. |
|
How does it work? |
|
A range of products will be available to purchase here. This new range of merchandise is kitted with Girl Guide designs and a range of variations to appeal to audiences both within our Guiding communities and beyond. On top of this, these products can be personalised via design styles as well as the inclusion of a name!
Funds will be raised via commission on products sold, where each District has been provided with a unique code that will assign the commission from your sale to your fundraising total. Your District Manager has been emailed your unique District code. You can ask your District Manager for the code for your District, or contact Guide House. Promote this code to Guides and members of your community in your fundraising efforts!
For more information, read the Members Update here.
Happy fundraising! |

An Update to Lones |
|
Lones Guiding has historically provided a flexible Guiding option for girls across Australia to participate in the Australian Guide Program when they are unable to attend regular Guide meetings with their peers. You may be more familiar with the term Horizon Guides, which has been the name to our “Lones” District for many years in Guiding in NSW, ACT & NT. |

Please read an update to the processes of this program moving forward here. |

Developing our new Australian Guiding Values |
|
Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT have partnered with Girl Guides Australia to enable a series of consultations to identify a new set of National Values for your Youth and Adults across Australia – not just Members, but everyone including our staff team and Volunteers who are non-Members. These Values will represent an Australian Guiding experience that has existed for over 100 years. These Values will help articulate our existing Guiding Mission, and will work to ensure that everyone feels safe, comfortable, and respected at Girl Guides.
Some Units have already completed the Youth Consultation - great work! The deadline for completion has been extended based on feedback to ensure we can cast the net as wide as possible and involve as many girls as possible. This means if your Unit hasn't done the consultation activity yet, you still have time in early Term 1 to complete.
A consultation with Adult Members will also occur in early Term 1 in the form of a short online survey. It will be a focussed timeframe (a handful of weeks) so keep your eyes peeled to get in quick!
