On the weekend, I was delighted to attend the Awards Ceremony at NSW Government House alongside Nav Johal and Race Barstow from our Board, and with special guest Helen Reid, Chief Commissioner of Girl Guides Australia. We celebrated the achievements of Youth Members and Olaves who were presented with Queen’s Guide Awards, Commonwealth Awards and Olave Challenges by the NSW Governor who is joint patron of Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT.
In the address I delivered, I reflected on the power of firsts. Each of these Awards are culminations of many firsts. So much seems impossible until it is not. And in Guiding, we dream big and make the impossible possible. Each of the Awards presented are a testament to the power and potential of each of our Members, their resilience and resolve – to create firsts and put into practice their promise to serve Australia and their community. Please join me in congratulating them all!

Email Communications |
|
Since last week’s edition of this newsletter, we have been experiencing a larger than usual number of bounce backs to organisational emails. The team at Guide House are investigating the cause and what can be done about it. This technological issue seems to have primarily impacted people with bigpond.com and optusnet.com.au email addresses.
If you hear of people in your Guiding community who have not received a particular communication, such as this newsletter or last week’s invitation to a Virtual Town Hall meeting with the Board, please forward them a copy, or ask them to get in touch with Guide House.
FYI: online versions of this newsletter and important Member updates can always be accessed through logging in to our Member’s area, My GuideBook. |

Upcoming Virtual Town Hall |
|
Later this month the Board and I are hosting a virtual Town Hall where we will outline our plan to create a stronger, more effective administration to improve member services, and share our strategy for the future.
What’s a Town Hall? A virtual town hall is an online event that allows organisations, leaders, or public figures to engage with a wide audience, typically for the purpose of information sharing, gathering feedback, or addressing concerns.
Our Town Hall won’t physically be in a town hall, it’s a name for this type of gathering and is in homage to the traditional practice of holding community gatherings or meetings in a central public building designated for this purpose. We’re a sweeping sisterhood of diverse communities, so hosting our Town Hall online (virtually) gives more of you the opportunity to engage directly with me, the Deputy State Commissioners, and the Board of Directors, whether you’re from Humpty Doo or Hay!
So, for an opportunity for you to hear from the Board and ask questions to bring clarity to recent changes in leadership and direction, register for our 2pm 23 September Town Hall through our website. |

Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT branded ProShop |
|
Did you know that as well as customisable Canva templates, Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT has a ProShop? Yes!
ProShop is a branch of Vistaprint, providing volunteers access to online print and promotional materials – teardrops, X-stands, Hall Signs and more. Some of you already know this exciting news! After resourcing Districts with new Hall Signs, Banners, etc. late last year and early this year, we have developed a new relationship with VistaPrint who has set us up with a “ProShop”!
This self-service offering is aligned to the Board’s strategy to strengthen our brand and amplify our marketing by empowering you to reach more girls and young women and engage more potential volunteers and donors! |

Adult Open Week
18–24 September 2023
|
|
Adult Open Week will be taking place from 18-24 September. Adult Open Week is an opportunity for your Unit or District (or Region!) to host an Adult Come & Try and boost Guiding in your area.
It's a week dedicated to welcoming Adults – new enquirers, potentially interested people, Guiding parents/carers and friends through the doors of your Guide Hall (or wherever you meet for Guides) and into the world of Girl Guiding. |

Women on Target |
|
The NSW Rifle Association has extended an invitation to Girl Guides NSW, ACT & NT for Members to participate in a NSW Government, Office of Sport funded initiative that invites women aged 14–28 from Regional & City based NSW areas to learn Target Rifle Shooting at the Rifle Association’s Malabar Rifle Range, NSW. Malabar is in the South Sydney area. This is a controlled environment and part of the ‘Her Sport Her Way’ campaign led by the NSW Office of Sport with a focus on increasing women’s participation in sports.
The event— ‘Women on Target’—will be conducted over the weekend of 28 – 29 October and will offer both a 1 day & 2 day course for Women to try Rifle Shooting. Olaves can book in to attend. We will need a Leader in Charge to be able to offer this opportunity to Youth Members. |
